How YEP Works

Successful careers are built on skills that get you and keep you hired.  The YEP program kicks off by delivering skill instruction from staff and community experts that meets the needs of today’s workplace.

Seven Weeks – Skill Instruction:

In the first seven weeks, you will have a chance to learn from professors, tradesmen, business people and instructors.  We will tackle many topics including:

Job Search Skills:  Resume Preparation, Interviews, Telephone Skills, Networking

Career Success: Planning, Researching, Goal Setting, Networking and Taking Initiative

Smart Resource Management: Money (Spending, Saving and Investing), Time Management and Building your Network

Succeeding with People: Professionalism, Ethics, Empathy, Communication, Dealing with Difficult People and other Soft Skills

Technical Skills and Certifications: Microsoft Office, Google, WMHIS, Typing, First Aid and Mental Health First Aid

and then

Twelve Weeks of Paid Job Placement:

Past participants have found paid internships in Construction, RV Mechanics, Industry, Self Employment, Child Care, Information Technology, Hotels, Media, Personal Health Care, Emergency Medical Services, Insurance Services and other diverse opportunities.  Employers in Taber, Bow Island, Enchant, Vauxhall, Lethbridge and Coaldale have found room for YEP participants who were keen to advance professionally.
